
Today the Econauts passed a very significant milestone.
On our way west from Sicamous to Revelstoke along the TransCanada highway, we pulled over to see the spot where the last spike was driven for the Canadian Pacific Railroad.
Some of you younger kids may not know that in the early 1870's Canada's first Prime minister, Sir John A. MacDonald signed an agreement with independent British Columbia to join Canada - if a railway was built linking the new provice with the rest of Canada. The Canadian Pacific Railway was created to bind the country together from Ocean to Ocean. They drove the last spike into the railroad where the construction of the two railroads met in Eagle's Pass. This great endeavour helped form the country we now call Canada.
