Checkpoint: Naslo, BC

Mission Control...

This is Eco1...

We have arrived at checkpoint Naslo, BC on the shore of Kootenay Lake.

Trish and the village of Kaslo has opened their arms wide to the Eco-Jugger-naut arrival and is hosting us for free in their municipal campground by the lake. Oh, look! There's a man canoeing past in the twilight. Big smiles and waves from everyone in town. Feels like I'm returning from a war.

It was a battle today as our lunch stop at New Denver gave us a bang as our left EcoPod trailer wheel exploded freom a combination of heat and too much pressure. We had pumped all the tires up in the morning in Nakusp, and I should have tested the pressure with more than my hand.

After New Denver, we headed east along highway 31a for a tough 15 km climb then 25 km downhill... Along the way a kind couple from Saskatoon stopped and offered us ice water from a cooler - which I poured over my head. Almost as cold as the snowmelt runoff falls I dipped in yesterday. They later told us that the scared a Grizzly off the road a few minutes in front of us. Thanks!

The brakes started to fail almost completely as we entered the camp ground. Quite a day....

This is Eco1 Out...
