This is Eco1...
Our Coldstream ES presentation was outside today! A lot of great questions from the kids. One young man (perhaps 7), asked me very seriously why we didn't manufacture some sort of foldable plastic shield device to protect us from the rain. He seem to be making mental notes for his own velomobile project. That's exactly what another young man indicated, "Now my brother and I HAVE to make one of these!" Go for it!
We arrived at the Salmon Arm KOA campground at 1630 hours (PST). A very nice site with all the luxuries - yes, even a fine espresso machine.
There's a lot of neat birds in this part of the world. So nice to see wild quail and pheasant so close to the highway. Then there's the hawks and eagles, not to mention a whole whack of ravens. We've also seen mule deer (near Mule Deer park, of course). Ground hogs (or some form of varmit) seem to like sunning themselves on top of concrete road barriers as if they were northern iquanas. They don't seem to have a care in the world.
Happy to report that Major Dude gave his first TV news interview about Kids Can 2007 today on an exit ramp of the 97N highway just north of Vernon. Dashing reporter, Kent Molgat, of Kelowna's CHBC (Global TV) flagged us down and directed the camera upon us for an indepth interview and much EcoRocket video. Many thanks to CHBC for taking the time to help promote our message for taking action to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions which cause Global Warming.
Tomorrow, we have an uphill cycle to Ranchero Elementary School for another wild 'n whacky presentation to the next generation of eco-leaders.
Will make an additional operational report about the EcoRocket's brake issues.
