I've got what you. Might call a 'complex relationship' with trains.
Trains are an old school, low GHG emissionwas to move freight and people.
Trains look good as they snake across the landscape.
Thrains are fascinating as a kid and you can look up to train engineers as real gravy job (especially when they had cabooses) and you got to wear one of those goofy train engineer hats.
When I visisted the spot where they drove the last spike I bought a goofy engineer's hat and slapped an Econaut logo on it.
The problem is...these Canadian Pacific trains roll past every single campsite we stop at and every couple of hours through the whole night the train rolls by and sounds its earth-shaking horn so I can never get a night's sleep.
Trains have to sound their horn before every railway crossing to warn people to stay clear. But do those engineers have to sound the damn thing like an impatient frat boy honking for his buddy to hurry with the 24 of beer?
Took a photo of a train engine crossing near camp for this blog post. The engineer stuck his head out the window as it creeped across the intersection and yelled at me, "Get away from the crossing!!". He wore a stupid baseball hat. I yelled back, "Okay, college boy!"
