Mission Control regrets to inform that at 10:07 PM (E.S.T.), Major Dude informed the Mission Director that the EcoRocket has sustained a substantial (but hopefully temporary) technical malfunction.
According to initial reports, the EcoRocket's rear peddle crank (housing various ball-bearings) has exploded. The valiant Econauts had to push the EcoRocket to its current resting area; near the water's edge of Kootenay Bay, or, to be more specific, using Major Dude's own words, "We're about a three-wood distance from the ferry docking."
Also, the EcoRocket braking system seems to be failing "when you least expect it."
The town of Creston is roughly 80 km away, and will hopefully (there's that word again!) offer the Econauts a suitable docking facility in which to repair the EcoRocket.
Further to this unfortunate situation, Major Dude, during his live transmission to Mission Control, happened to spot what he believed to be a forest fire climbing over the mountain west-south-west of Kootennay Bay. This is unconfirmed at the moment, and should not be cause for alarm... perhaps just great drama!
Undaunted, and full of hearty laughs, the Econauts have made camp for the evening and will make preparations for their trek toward Creston tomorrow, perhaps with some local, Kootenay support.
Please stand-by for further updates.
Hang in there, Econauts!

Mission Control...
This is Eco1...
We have digital signal again in Creston. Thanks for the fine update on our situation there. We aren't out of the woods yet, but it looks like our Summit docking engineer, Robert's got a plan for the fix up, the know-how and the tools to do it.
After I complete a brake patch-up, I plan to wait for the parts arrival by reading Ken Dryden's 'The Game' about his time playing goalie for the famed Montreal Canadiens.
Will update on the developing situation as it happens.
Eco1 Out.
