Mission Control...
This is Eco1...
Reporting arrival and encampment near Yard Creek Park (closed) at 1900 hours PST. The weather has been all blue sky and warm, Skipper. We've been lucky so far in avoiding the rain. I'm getting faster at making and breaking camp every day just to be prepared for doing it in a monsoon.
Special thanks for an enthusastic welcome at Ranchero ES (how do they get so well informed?...). Almost make me want to go back to school. We're lucky to have Principal Abbott on our side, kids. He gave me some good pointers on presenting I'll try had to follow. Actually I learn from every principal we're fortunate enough to meet. They seem to care. When I was a kid you were always afraid of the principal.
Anyhoo, mosquito season is officially open. I'm not one of those Econauts who wouldn't hurt an insect that's trying to suck my blood. What's the best thing - cover myself in bear poop? It's war on mosquitos! Now I understand that Bruce Colburn song about using a rocket launcher....
The Brakes.... Didn't have time to dally in Sicamous for bike repair, Doc and Rusty. I've jiggled them a bit and they seem to be holding on (practicing my ejection technique, Kent). Hope to meet a real pro in Revelstoke on Monday to set them right. Also, after Dave's fine derailer adjustment in Penticton, now the middle derailer won't shift into high gear. Not that important at the moment as we're pretty much either crawling up a mountain or coasting down the otherside.
We're 60 km west of Revelstoke and planning to do two 30 km days over the weekend, Skipper. As it's pretty much all up hill, from local reports, we figure there's no point in rushing it. Three Valley Gap looks about midway and is a likely Checkpoint for tomorrow.
Hope all is well back at Mission Control.
