Hobby Cycle, my repair shop of choice, is closed today (Sunday). So, I've decided to use the day as a rest day. The shop opens tomorrow at 1000 hours and I'll be there.
I've made a little picnic on a secluded cliff edge overlooking the Parc de Chutes in town. The waterfall serves as a local hydro-electric source and tourists flock here to take a look. I'll pitch my tent on this spot at dusk and hope for the best as always.
New Brunswick and Maine are nearby, and so ther seems more English language is known locally. This always helps. I'd say 3 of every 5 people in the info centre requested English conversations.
It's nice to have a pause to the daily, focused grind of having to do 100+/- km per day. I don't take time to enjoy the scenery much: once said, "I don't care if it's the bottom circle of Hell as long as it's flat!".
So, I took a rare pause yesterday and pulled into a farmland micro-brewery with a balcony facing the St. Laurent. While the bottle of beer was no match for The Doctor's World Famous Homebrew, the river - more than a kilometre wide - and the Laurentian Mountains along the north shore were truly impressive. There's little evidence of mankind from the far shore. Surveying the mizt expanse, I couldn't help wondering on thoughts of the early European explorers as they entered a new world.
The New Brunswick boarder is 137 km south on Hwy 185.
Will update on repairs tomorrow.
