Reading: 'Caesars of the Wilderness"

I've begun Peter C Newman's book about the Hudson's Bay Company. Here's a passage describing the company men who lived in the North West...

"Their lives may indeed have been harsh, but the best of them savoured the sights, sounds and fragrances of a bewitching land where a man could lose his soul or grasp rare understanding of life's wonders and nayure's cycles.... The silence of the wild land could cloak emotions or become the catalyst for exhilarating self-discovery. Pretensions fell away like chips from a sculptor's block - character and capabilities were laid bare as stone".

That's a great passage. I bet you have felt the same way as those men many times throughout your journey. It sounds as if as the last leg of your velo adventure approaches completion, you are now more able to relax and "savour the sights, sounds and fragrances of a bewitching land"
