Hobby Cycle, Riviere-du-loup

Hobby Cycle in Riviere-du-loup opened for business at 10 am this Monday morning. That's when I met Robert Gagnon, proprietaire, the man with the singing answering machine.

He came outside to see what I wanted as he knows very little English. His hand went instantly to his shaking head when he saw the EcoRocket, looked around a bit, said maybe afternoon, then walked slowly back inside his shop.

Later, when he saw the top off the EcoRocket, he laughed and laughed at the sight and he (and I believe his wife) began taking photos with abandon.

He's pushed me ahead of some other bikes waiting for repair. He helped me carry the bottom half of the velo into the fron of his shop where it rests on bike stands for easy repair. He'll use a stainless steel cable this time.

Robert has an enviable joie-de-vivre as he happily sets about replacing the critical gear cable with a surgeon's careful eye. The expedition couldn't be in better hands.

All I can do is wait.
