We're reached Cyclepath in Thunder Bay in one piece. By 1830 hours (EST) we should know the repair situation.
I understand the mechanic planned to rebuild the rear tire with new sprockets and spokes, add new derailer of same (plastic) type replace streatched rear chain and middle gear sprockets as well. We also need a new spare tire (due to excessive wear) and spare Shrader and Presta type tubes. In addition, the mechanic planned to drill out the nozzle holes on our presta rims to accept the more common Schrader tubes in an emergency.
Camera Phone: Thunder Bay has no Telus dealer or repair shop. Sault Ste Marie does have two. The cellphone would need to be sent away for damage assessment (6 weeks) and shipped to a fixed address. So, the old cellphone is toast. I bought a 4 dollar screw driver set and dismantled the cellphone in an attempt to fix it. No dice.
Options:
(1) purchase new camera phone (250)
(2) purchase used pawnshop phone (no camera (100). Attempted to buy a used no-camera phone from Big Ed's pawnshop, but it appearently has to be a used Telus phone. Odds are I won't find one before Toronto
(3) Wait until Toronto to purchase used Telus phone and no longer send cameraphone photos to Ground Controlller, Rusty.
Decision: Option 3.
I'll do my best to send text messages where I can with the poor Rogers BlackBerry service. I may also be able to send occasiona Internet Cafe messages. Also, I can relay occasional payphone collect calls to Ma Pocock to Mission Control when able.
My apologies, Rusty. As we will not be funded by Environment Canada as hoped, money must be used to pay for food and campsites. 250 bucks is too much and the EcoRocket repair going on right now is going to be expensive.
I keep wondering when my credit card will be refused and am surprised when it isn't.
On my walk back from the pawn shop to Cyclepath, I'll stop by Canadian Tire to see what a bug jacket/suit looks like. I can't afford to buy it (maybe a fateful decision as the bugs are getting bad), but at least I'll know what I'm missing.
Will report on EcoRocket repairs soon.

MD,
I may have access to a used Telus phone with a camera in it. The pictures would be lower resolution. Will check.
