Checkpoint: Kenora, ON

Mission Control...

This is Eco1...

We've entered the province of Ontario and set camp in rainy Kenora!

Yea!

The weather forecast predicts constant rain for the next three days. Today was the first day I was completely soaked. I wouldn't mind it so much if it was warm - but it isn't. So we set up our tents in the rain tonight as fast as we could, grabbed hot showers, and are stuck inside until a wet departure and day tomorrow. No noodles tonight, inside the tent. It's peanut butter and honey sandwiches for me and a good book.

As we're scheduled to have our first Ontario presentation in Vermillion Bay on Friday morning, we have no choice but to ride through the rain. It's all part of the adventure (I keep telling myself).

As we're about to start our second big series of Global Warming presentations to Northern Ontario elementary schools it's a tough break to receive news from the Ontario office of Environment Canada that they will not be helping us to fund our efforts, Skipper. We still have to hear back from the BC Environment Canada office as well as some additional sponsorship possibly from MEC. We'll see.

Every day has brought new surprises and challenges to overcome for us along the way, kids. The best way is to keep a positive mental attitude about things and press on as best you can. Believe in yourself.

And when it rains? Wear a rainsuit!

ADDITIONAL:

* Entering probable BLACKOUT area on northern 17a route to Vermillion Bay, Skipper. Had to regretibly cancel Fort Francis to make up time. Uncertain on ability to digital BlackBerry report until Thunder Bay in approximately 4-5 days. The shorter, more dangerous northern route we've switched to is prone to accidents. Will try to contact Mission Control via private channel for status report when able. Wish us Luck, Skipper.

* Still unable to send photos, Rusty.

When I worked in the movies in the rain in Vancouver I was wet most of the time. I wore polypropelene or polyester long underwear that did a great job of keeping me warm (Mark's Work Warehouse). It did get stinky- beeter warm and stinky than cold. There are probably much better materials available now from MEC that work even better.

It looks to me like its mainly today (Thursday) for all the rain/thunder storms. By Friday things are looking much better. Warmer and little chance of rain (10%)till at least Monday. May give you a chance to dry out your sleepingbag (or is that about the only thing that IS dry?).
