Ship's Log - August 7, 2007

This morning I feasted on wild blueberries growing on a hill behind Corner Brook's CBC HQ.

After a fun live interview at 800 hours, CBC TV was kind enough to video tape me cruising along the TCH and ask me some questions about the expedition. They're really pro at the nation's broadcaster. Many thanks for the time and great care by all.

Then it started to rain for the second part of the day. Never thought it would end. Though it finally did around 2000 hours. Along the way I met some colourful Newfoundland characters at a roadside restaurant/grocery store. Some old-timer with a baseball hat two sizes big and a single tooth in his gums started laughing at my wood jelopy and saying godknowswhat. He sounding like goose quacking into a tin can at the bottom of a well.

I go inside to buy some food and a coffee because I'm soaked and freezing to death and a group of women gather around and laugh at the sight of me with old quacker. "You look like a wet rat!". Thanks ladies. Charmed.

But, a happy ending as I found a secluded beach on a lake near the highway about 7 km past Exit 420.

The road conditions have improved with lower, rolling hills, many flat sections and a 4 ft paved shoulder. Now if only it would stay dry for a while!

End Ship's Log entry.
