Mission Control...
This is Eco1...
Have set camp to the east of Kelly's Mountain at the Seal Island KOA. Thanks for the free campsite Jason!
Another great day for velomobiling. Y'know, Skipper, there always seems to be some character telling me how difficult the road ahead will be - almost impossible. But I take each hill one at a time, setting my goal to reach the top and I always do. Once a challenge is behind me I forget about it and set a new goal, knowing I leave a trail of success behind me because I will not stop until St. John's.
So, I set hundreds of goals everyday. That's how I get through the pain and hunger and thirst.
It was so nice to ride into Whycocomagh today and meet the nicest bookseller you could want to meet. Florence Cook Not only gave me a free book, but also the weather forcast for Newfoundland and her Canadian flag to stick on the EcoRocket. WE also talked about living in the moment of 'Now' which is very much the reality of my expedition experience.
As if that wasn't enough, Florence directed me toward the town's fascinating EcoCentre where I met with kids from the Day Camp and a lively turtle named Speedy.
Then I pressed north east along hwy 105 toward the dreaded Kelly's Mountain. A 7 km climb to the top was my super-duper goal for the day. Drenched in sweat, old wounds pouring blood I made it to the top, refusing to use the lowest gear out of Pride.
At the top, I tightened the failing breaks before the steep descent and discovered the left front wheel seemed about to come off. Tightened that too and went down the other side to the campground below.
What a warm reception at this KOA! Later I enjoyed the rare pleasure of a campfire and refreshments with Nicki and Nikki with a well-earned unwind from the day.
Tomorrow I plan a short ride to North Sydney in hopes of securing a spot on the ferry to Newfoundland for Saturday. See how that goes....
Had a shower and did laundry this evening. Thought you should know.
This is Eco1...Out.

Hundreds of goals every day such is the way to live, keeps the mind going and it gives purpose to the flesh. The key to the city of fortitude left on a blog thanks Major dude, I shall begin to apply the little nugget of wisdom to my daily endeavours.

Whycogamaugh is a special and magical place! I remember it fondly. There's a wonderful hike up the mountain there to a point where you can see the other side of the ridge (looking over to the gulf again, away from bras d'or) but you probably got enough hill climbing in on your ride that you're not looking for hiking opportunities... just guessing over here.
