One Hundred Years of Solitude

My good friends Juan and Shannon have recommended one book to take with me on the Econaut journey. This book is the fine novel, "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Here's a brief description from the back of the book:
"One Hundred Years of Solitude" tells the rich and lusty story of the rise and fall of the Buendia family. Love and death, war and peace, youth and age - the noble and stunning beautiful story of this family is alive with a truth and understanding that strike the soul".
It was good to meet with old friends at the Kino Cafe last night (Saturday), drink some sangria, and watch some mesmerizing flamenco dancing. Old friends are the best friends. Juan told great, adventurous stories about fishing in the wild mountain streams of British Columbia. This old friend is the rare sort of life philosopher good fortune can reward you with. One of things he said was, "Go out there and have an amazing adventure. The more struggle, the better. Out there, you will find out who you are".

I intend to quote some passages from Marquez's book along the way when I'm able. Here's the first sentence of 'One Hundred Years of Solitude'...
Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.
